FolkRoots® D Series Dulcimers

The FolkRoots® D Series (with its close relative the FolkRoots® H Series) is our loudest mountain dulcimer. It has a big, bold, guitar-like voice that holds its own in any jam. The design goes back to Felton, California, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and the basic construction has stayed the same for over 50 years.

The D Series is built on our larger California body: nearly 8" wide at the lower bout, with 2 1/4" sides. You choose the body and top woods, the scale length and the sound holes. Each one comes with a 1 3/8" fretboard and our traditional flat head with two tuners on each side.

It's our most affordable handmade dulcimer, starting at $1,095, and it's built one at a time from solid woods in our wood shop in Rock, Michigan. Want the same big sound with a few upgrades? See the FolkRoots® H Series.

They sound the same. The H Series adds a flat head and an ebony fretboard veneer. See D vs. H vs. FSH vs. Custom.

Please allow about three to four months for a custom D Series. Check Ready to Ship for one that ships now.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Every Folkcraft instrument comes with a five-year warranty.
