Folkcraft® Hammered Dulcimer Hammers Kit

Item Number 7091661

Regular price $16.00

Our easy-to-assemble kit for making your own hammered dulcimer hammers will save you a ton of money, and only take an afternoon to assemble. We've taken 1/8” thick blanks of Honduras mahogany, laser-cut them to size/shape, and we're leaving the assembly (a spot of glue) and sanding (start with 120 grit sandpaper, finish with 220 grit paper) to you. In our hammered dulcimer kits for sale, your hammers are sanded to your satisfaction (Honduras mahogany is very soft, and will sand very, very easily!). Afterwards, you can add a finish (we would recommend a polyurethane, or a Danish oil) or leave the wood bare. Cut the leather pads to length, glue them on (we would use Duco Cement) and then make some music. Our hammered dulcimer hammers kit includes four shafts, eight caps, and a piece of leather long enough for four completed hammers.

Cardboard Dulicumer

They were easy to put togeather, I also had Folkcraft put the togeather the fret board which was a great help. They sound great and work well for some one who want to try and get start with learning. I have a program for beginner Dulicumer’s, and now they have 2 dulicumer for the program.

Best path to your own custom hammered dulcimer hammers

DIY project always a good challenge.
Putting them together the hardest thing was waiting for the glue to dry.
I painted mine and then rounded handles with a drum sander bit on a dremel
Light weight good balance . I really like them painted the features on the head of the hammer really popped out I will make the second pair when I can think of ways to improve on the first pair

Hammer Dulcimer hammers and lap dulcimer strings

I bought put together hammer dulcimer hammers and I felt the leather for the business end was Exactly the length required but since it was folded in the package at a location that did not line up exactly where the leather had to be cut it made putting it together very tedious. The strings worked fine but I needed to improvise the ped end of the strings
