Our corrugated paper or cardboard dulcimer kit is just what you've been trying to find! To build a dulcimer, all of the paper parts are cut out, and ready to glue. The fretboard is made of a solid hardwood, is slotted for nut, bridge, and frets. It also has holes pre-drilled to accommodate the machine heads. Our cardboard mountain dulcimer kits have a fretboard with a 27" VSL (Vibrating String Length).

Detailed instructions are provided, and this cardboard dulcimer kit should take you about two hours to build. You'll need the following tools: a small hammer (for tapping in the frets and anchor pins); a drill with #49 bit (for drilling the holes for the anchor pins and machine head screws); a small Phillips head screwdriver (for installing the machine head screws); a piece of sandpaper, either 120 grit or 220 grit (for fitting the nut and bridge pieces); a pair of wire cutters (for trimming the frets and cutting the strings to length); and a flat file (for finishing the ends of the frets). You'll also need to provide some white or yellow glue (for assembling the cardboard parts).

They don't have the volume of a cherry or walnut dulcimer, though. If you want a loud instrument, choose something in solid wood.

Great little project

I built this for my wife for an anniversary gift, she adores it and the build was straightforward. Quality parts, good instructions. I made some minor modifications to the kit (strum hollow on the neck, cut the nut slots a bit deeper, touch of paint) and everything worked out great. 100% recommended

Cardboard Kit

An excellent kit to assemble. Went together nicely. I did watch Banjo Lemonade do her YouTube video's which helped and she gave some tips as well. I did change the strings and made it a baritone and it sounds really good.

Cardboard dulcimer

My husband & I play Mountain Dulcimers. Several of our grandchildren have showed an interest in learning and playing with us. We opted to try Folkcraft cardboard dulcimer for them to start learning to play. The kits arrived intact and with all the necessary pieces. The instructions were clear and concise. We also watched Mandy’s YouTube videos for more detail on assembly. Both dulcimers turned out great! They are a little quiet, but the tone and sustain is remarkable! Thank you Richard and fellow luthiers! Your excellent product is helping to insure the next generations will love the mountain dulcimer too.

I think they’re great. Little concerned about how they will hold up. Think it should be painted. Enjoyed putting it together.
