We stock those hard-to-find hardshell cases and gig bags for your mountain dulcimers, bowed psalteries, kanteles, tin whistles and Native American flutes.
Our padded soft cases are sewn in our own shop from 600-denier (600D) polyester, coated for water resistance, over high-density foam, in black or tan, plain or embroidered with the Folkcraft Instruments or FolkRoots Dulcimers logo. We make sizes for standard hourglass and teardrop dulcimers, courting and double neck dulcimers, and LAP-JOs, DulciVox and resonator dulcimers, plus a six-pocket case for tin whistles and flutes. We also carry padded cases for small-size dulcimers, bowed psalteries and kanteles. For the most protection, choose a deluxe rigid case. Not sure which case fits? See our case size chart.
Cases & bags: frequently asked questions
Should I get a soft case or a rigid case?
A padded soft case is lighter and easier to carry, and its high-density foam guards against scratches, dents and dings for everyday use. Our deluxe rigid case has a shell of wood and dense foam that guards against bumps and drops, so it is the best protection for travel. It also has two removable backpack-style shoulder straps.
Will your cases fit a dulcimer that isn't a Folkcraft?
Usually, yes. Our standard soft case fits nearly all hourglass and teardrop mountain dulcimers up to 38" long, 8" wide and 4" deep. Our standard rigid case fits dulcimers up to 40 3/8" long, 8 1/4" wide and 3 7/8" deep. Measure your instrument and compare it with our case size chart, or call (317) 539-1855 or email Sales@Folkcraft.com with your measurements.
What is 600D fabric?
600D means 600-denier, a measure of how thick the fibers are. 600-denier polyester is a heavyweight, tough fabric that stands up to scuffs and wear. Our standard, courting, double neck and LAP-JO soft cases, our deluxe rigid cases and our whistle and flute case are all made with it.
Are your cases waterproof?
No. Our 600D cases are water-resistant, not waterproof. The fabric is coated for water resistance, so it sheds light rain and splashes on the way to the car, but it should not be left out in the rain or set in water.
Can the whistle and flute case clip onto a rigid case?
Yes. Our six-pocket case for tin whistles and Native American flutes attaches to the extra D-rings on any of our deluxe rigid dulcimer cases, so your whistles and flutes travel with your dulcimer. It also has its own handles and shoulder strap, and holds instruments up to 22" long.
