Your Answers: What To Play In A Dulcimer Club

Last week I asked you for recommendations for material to play in a dulcimer club. Here are your replies!

"Songs that we can play and sing along. Easy chords so you don't watch your hand."

Name: Blue Ridge Mountain Dulcimer Club
Location: Harrisonburg, VA
"The Blue Ridge Mountain Dulcimer Club has a yearly play list of 25 tunes. Being 3 years in existence we have a 75 tune list to choose from at our monthly jams. Tunes are taken from various sources. Steve's book is one. We also use both Everything Dulcimer and Dogwood Dulcimer as sources. While we play a variety, we like the Traditionals. We invite any dulcimer player visiting the Shenandoah Valley to join our jams at the Augusta Co. Library, Fishersville, VA. Every third Saturday, 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Tom Scanlan"

Name: Fern W.
Location: Fort Wayne, IN
"I've started working on songs in the Join the Jam II book. I'm finding it challenging - a fun challenge. I also wouldn't mind working on more songs with flat picking and chords - maybe Dave Haass jam book."

Name: JLT
Location: Sacramento CA
"The go-to book in our group is Rise Up Singing but it's mixed instruments (guitar, dulcimer, autoharp, mandolin) so we're really very eclectic."

"The 3rd Sunday Gathering plays mostly music from the public domain and music our members have composed. Recently our researchers found a version of Down In The Valley To Pray published in 1880 which we are now in the process of arranging. Since we have members who play in DAA and others who prefer DAD, I have been posting elder-eyes-friendly large print PDFs for the DAA players on our web page while Khrysso and Sandi are creating DAD tab in an android program for the tablets which have pretty much replaced the big heavy notebooks we used to tote with us everywhere. Some of our DAA sheet music is available to print out at http://users.zoominternet.net/~grannyemm/3sg/index.html though it probably won't be of much use to more advanced players."
