"A dulcimer and a guitar are always on stands In the living room. My Poodle often wags her tail against the strings and seems to be fascinated by the sound. My other dog does not seem to notice."
Name: Tom S.
Location: Virginia Beach, VA
"Sky is a husky/cattle dog mix and doesn't care much about music. Penny, a catahoula, is usually wired, but as soon as I sit in the living room and play she curls up next to me and drifts off to sleep."

"We have tried playing our dulcimers on our front porch in KY since our
dulcimer friends from up North have told us they expect to see KY people
doing that sort of thing, but our cats crawl all over us when we play, so we
have had to move back inside."
Name: Steven B.
Location: Jacksonville, TX
"My dog, Rusty, likes when I play the dulcimer...at least he doesn't leave the room. On the other hand, when I play my resonator guitars he's outta there!"
Name: Lois Ann W.
Location: Lake Luzerne, NY
"Two cats now, both calicos, have hung around close to me while I play my dulcimer. The other one isn't interested at all. The two calicos, btw, have been most intelligent!"
Name: Chris W.
Location: Rochester NY
"Both my present and previous cat had no problem with the dulcimer, but neither have responded well to the harmonica. The new one, Katy, shows a certain interest in both, but the harmonica seems to hurt her ears."
Name: David P

"My Parrot will sing along his own version. He sings octaves and intervals he likes 5ths for some reason."
Name: Yvonne M
Location: Eldridge, ND
"Our Golden Retriever, Miss Mollie, sometimes sits by my side as if listening intently... other times she takes a nap, apparently very bored by it all:-)"
Name: Randy C.

"My cat Mshell will curl up at my feet when I play dulcimer or fingerstyle guitar. She's not quite as interested in the dobro, and the fiddle will send her to a neutral corner. Probably sounds like stray cat invading her space."
Name: Eric B
Location: Hampden, MA
"The most interesting pet reaction is our parrot, who sings along with any instrument or human voice. Well, WE know he's singing along, but anyone else would assume he's just making a squawking racket!"
Name: Christine L
Location: Toledo, Ohio
"My cats ignore the dulcimer, or come sit and listen. When I play my bowed psaltery, they try to cover their ears with their paws. Seriously, they disappear."
Name: Twins at Play - Kelly and Cindy

"My cat has been banished from my practice room ever since I found him drinking from my glass of water. I thought he sat on the table beside me because he liked the music, but now I believe he just wanted the cold water. My little doggie Lucy will either curl up in her bed (I keep it on the floor beside the dulcimer) when I practice, or she will sing along with me. She sings, interestingly enough, only when I play pieces in the key of D. :)"
