Your Answers: Do You Have Instrument Acquisition Syndrome?
Last week I asked you if you suffered from IAS (Instrument Acquisition Syndrome). Here are your responses!
Name: David
Location: Westerville, OH
"I don't think so. I only have 11 dulcimers, 5 guitars (2 electric, 3 acoustic), over 20 harmonicas, a number of penny whistles and recorders, and a didgeridoo. (Accumulated over a period of 45 years or so.)"
Name: JLT
Location: Sacramento CA
"Guilty as charged! Five guitars, five mandolins, two dulcimers, a ukulele, an auto-harp, a hurdy-gurdy, a violin, and two folk harps. My excuse is that I've built most of them, so they're kind of like my babies. This year, I plan to prune it down a bit. I planned that last year, too, with little success."
Name: Mac S
Location: Eastern US
"As we move through life and trying times our sound requirements change. I have many native flutes and shakuhachi, and a number of guitars, and mountain dulcimers. Each has a special sound and performed with all but maybe two of them. If I found another with a particular sound and feel that spoke to me, I would probably acquire it and follow its path."
Name: Morris, B
"I own at least 80, distributed among keyboards, recorders, viols, and dulcimers (both kinds). I have terminal IAS."
Name: Yvonne M
Location: Eldridge, ND
"I definitely have IAS - but no way I could fit 4 dulcimers and 4 pianos into one photo... and added to the mix are two Kalimbas (one octave two octave) and a Washboard that hasn't been strummed since my granddaughter was young:-)"
Name: Jon
Location: Charlottesville VA
"Definitely infected-too many to get in one picture. Four guitars, 12 Appalachian dulcimers, two hammered dulcimers, mandolin, banjo, two temple drums, one Bodhran, three recorders, four harmonicas, one Dan Bao and one Tashigoto harp. And no, I don't have a 32 room house."
Name: Steven B.
Location: Jacksonville, TX
"2 mountain dulcimers, 1 6-string acoustic guitar, 3 resophonic guitars, 2 banjos, 1 concertina, 3 fifes, 1 Strumstick, 2 Andean flutes...total of 15 instruments. I sometimes ask myself, feed the kids or buy a new instrument, feed the kids or buy a new instrument?...tough question!"
Name: Peggy M
Location: Park Ridge, IL
"See last week's answer. I tell my Uke students that it is addictive, like a 12 step program. My name is P...... And I am a ukeaholic ( add other instruments here)"

"I have suffered from MIADD for years. I just wish I was an octopus...no wait that still does not give me enough hands... to play the 20 instruments on which I presently play. I have instruments in cases, hanging on the wall, on display on shelves, in display cases, in my car and on my boat. Heck, David Marks sold me a fully chromatic set of Whitlow Jews Harps which is always with me when I travel.(MIADD=Musical Instrument Attention Demanding Disorder)The photo below is from our first CD, of the 30 instruments 14 are mine :) and that was 15 years ago :)"
