Question Of The Week: Your Banner Musical Moments Of 2014

There were good times. There were bad times. Some things we learned from. Some we shook off. Some made us stronger. And as a musician, our daily experiences affect our playing. Whether they make us play more, make us strive to play better, or inspire us to write a lyric or two, the day-to-day events shape who we are as instrument players or song writers.

As we enter 2015, we reflect on the previous year and look forward to the days that await us. So this week we ask you to look back on those 365 days of 2014. And then look ahead to days to come in 2015, and answer...

What were your banner musical moments of 2014, and what do you anticipate or hope to accomplish in 2015?

Did you learn a new song?
Pick up a new instrument?
Anyone in particular that you'd like to thank or pay tribute to?
Any goals you're looking to check off your bucket list?

2014 - Folkcraft proudly welcomes Dave Haas (left) as an endorsing artist.
2015 - Bing Futch (right) hits 6-year mark as a Folkcraft endorsing artist.
Folkcraft looks forward to working with both of them this year!

Lots of stuff happened last year, and the ringing in of a new year gets us thinking ahead. There are no wrong answers to this week's question... we hope to hear from you!

"Did I learn a new song: yes a few of them, love the old fiddle tunes so have learned Going to Boston and Whiskey Before Breakfast. Pick up a new Instrument: OH YES!!! A FolkRoots Custom - and man I love it, goes along with my FolkRoots D series. FolkRoots custom was lovingly made for me by the artists in the shop and it is a Hickory back and sides tear drop, with an Engelman Spruce sound board, Ebony Fingerboard with Maple inlays... Canadian Airforce theme. Galax Back. Anyone I want to pay tribute to - so many good friends and mentors - but Rich Carty of Pineland Basketry and Music - a friend, a teacher, and an encourager of all things Dulcimer. Goals checked off my bucket list - yes got to see Loreena McKennitt in concert and was privileged to play at a small concert with a local singer song writer. 2014 was good, but 2015 will be better."

"Realizing how much I loved the dulcimer and hoping to become a better player in 2015. On another point, I have seen several You Tube videos of Bruce Hornsby playing the mountain dulcimer at one of his concerts. One of his songs that he does is Every little kiss. Does anyone know the chords or tabs for this song?"

"2014 was a great musical year for me. I was very fortunate to attend a lot of wonderful jams and clinics with some great teachers. Every time I went I learned something new and it has really helped improve my playing. I even had my first public dulcimer performance! My goal this year is to keep learning and hopefully find more places to perform. I also got a beautiful new dulcimer and a ukulele so 2015 is looking good!"

"Having a video go viral. The joy that it has brought to people is impossible to summarize, it's opened their minds to new possibilities on an instrument they may or may not have heard of, it's given me an inside look at the way the Internet works, I've met some really interesting people, and it's greatly enriched my sense of the size and scope of the world."
