Limited Edition Honduras Mahogany FSH Dulcimers
If you're a frequent reader of the "What's Going On In The Shop" section of your weekly Folkcraft newsletter, you'll know that we're quite fond of Honduras mahogany. It's a great tone wood, and we've yet to hear a bad sound come from an instrument that we make from it. Even the one that fell on the concrete floor gave a bang that was pure and tonally pleasing.
A standard FSH hourglass, about 6 1/4" wide and 2" deep.
Teardrops are slightly wider at 6 5/8".

This time around we're taking our love of the Honduras mahogany and sharing it with some of our traditionally sized dulcimers, our FSH models. FSH dulcimers, when compared to Custom or FolkRoots D models, are relatively smaller. This was the normal size when the instrument was introduced. It got bigger over time, but this is where it all started.

These models give the most traditional folk and mountain music sound. Add some Honduras mahogany to the recipe, and you get a little more of that acoustic "ummph!" Hourglasses tend to have a balanced tone, and teardrops emphasize the bass a bit more.

We're able to start these limited edition FSH models at $575.00, which includes our USA-made gig bag. The first 4 we've made are pictured in this post. We hope to make more, and hope that you like them! They're available online at the following links, and hopefully Richard will have a few with him on the road this summer.
