FolkRoots Travel Dulcimers Get Galax Backs
The FolkRoots Travel Dulcimers have gone through some changes since they were introduced in the 1980's by the original FolkRoots owners in Felton, CA. When Folkcraft brought them back in 2011, they were welcomed by many in the dulcimer community.

Those who followed Folkcraft Instruments during this re-release may remember the "Travel Dulcimer Audition" project we rolled out as the newly designed dulcimers were finished. During this project, we received lots of feedback on what made the instruments great, and what may make them better. The most popular suggestion was the need for more volume. They are smaller dulcimers, after all, so we answered quickly with the compatible possum board.
With possum board

Fast forward to this week, where the Travel throwback continues and a new feature is brought to the table. We've taken the need for more volume a step further and added a double Galax back. For those who aren't familiar, the Galax back is essentially 2 backs in 1. One of the backs is raised, and does not come in contact with the playing surface. This creates more vibrating area for the instrument, enhancing the acoustics and increasing both volume and resonance.
Look close - we're putting Galax backs on them now

We still offer the Travel Dulcimers without the Galax back, and the possum board can always be added when needed. Check out all the Travel varieties at Folkcraft.com.
