Folkcraft YouTube Channel
May 27, 2022
Did y'all know that Folkcraft has a YouTube channel? 209,714 views (as of yesterday afternoon), 4,000 (ish) videos, and over 2,000 subscribers?
It is really neat how many non-dulcimer people we reach via our YouTube channel. But with the surge in dulcimer sales (which started during the 2020 lockdowns and is still not letting up!) I found my time stretched very thin and was looking for help managing the channel. Mandy Tyner (one of Folkcraft's endorsing artists) stepped up, and I shared the password with her, and gave her free rein to add new videos, edit old videos, and generally make the channel more appealing to viewers.
Mandy's a genius - kind of like Bing Futch is a genius - and what she's doing with the Folkcraft YouTube channel is amazing!
Last week, Mandy did a "live stream." She somehow connected her computer to Google's YouTube servers, and then connected the whole thing to Bing Futch's computer. Then she proceeded to interview him - Mandy in Georgia, Bing in Florida - and broadcast the interview live to the whole world, via YouTube. How cool is that?! She took live questions from the people who were watching the interview, and put the questions up on the screen for all of us to see. And Bing answered every one.
I've known Bing for over 10 years. I've spent a lot of time with him and I'm not at all shy about picking his brain when it comes to dulcimer things. And I still learned a lot - both about his origins with the dulcimer, his music background before learning the dulcimer, and all kinds of other interesting things. If you don't know Bing's back story, you really ought to watch the recording of the interview! Fascinating stuff!
Check it out, when you get the chance. You can subscribe to the channel (100% free!), comment on the videos, ask questions in the comments, and have a good time exploring all the different topics covered by the channel.
