Design Your Own Folkcraft Dulcimer
April 15, 2022
Hello Everyone - Happy Friday!
It seems like only yesterday we were celebrating the new year. And here we are mid-April, celebrating Burt Gummer Day (tomorrow, as I write this, and yesterday, as you read this)!
Where has the time gone and so quickly? Personally, I've been hunkered down in the shop, plugging away on instruments, trying to take care of some of the backlog of orders. This morning, the last of the 2021 orders made it to the lacquer area, so those instruments will be in their new homes some time next week.
The instrument in today's photos? It shipped earlier this week and is probably in the player's hands by the time you read this. It's a Folkcraft Custom Series dulcimer, with the Kentucky-style body. Walnut body, butternut top. Racing stripes, of course, since it's a Folkcraft Custom! This one has first-of-a-kind sound holes. It is a variation on our popular vine-heart sound holes, only I substituted small crosses for the hearts. I was worried that the design would be "busy," but it came out nicely.
The sound hole substitution was a customer request - we are happy to make special sound holes for people - sometimes there's an up-charge, sometimes not. This edit to our existing sound hole design was pretty straightforward, so it wasn't much of an extra cost for the player. So, you might ask, what's our most popular sound hole? Look at the sound hole options here and make your guess. I'll put the name of our most popular sound hole at the bottom of this email, next to my signature.
So what's your favorite sound hole? Let us know, and we'll put that on your next dulcimer.
