The Folkcraft FSH Series mountain dulcimer has a traditionally-sized body – 6 1/2” wide, 1 3/4” tall – and has a clear, beautiful tone. Choose the wood you want as well as the head and sound hole design. Our FSH Series dulcimers are reminiscent of early Kentucky dulcimers, and they have a traditionally sized body, and a softer, more delicate tone than our larger California-style dulcimers. Here's an article about Kentucky bodies and California bodies. The FSH Series mountain dulcimer has a 1 3/8" wide fretboard.

Each of our handmade dulcimers comes with our best soft carrying case, made here in the Folkcraft workshop. Our rigid case, which offers more protection, is available for an upcharge. Strap buttons are also included.

There are a lot of options to choose when designing an instrument for us to make for you. We have a reference/resource page here, and you're always welcome to contact us for help and guidance in making great choices.

Please allow us three to four months for shipping on your custom-built instrument.

Lovely Folkcraft Chromatic FSH Dulcimer

I recently received this fabulous dulcimer in the mail, and it plays beautifully. The intonation is spot-on, and the wood (all walnut) is gorgeous. Since it’s chromatic, it’ll be a while before I can play it well, but I’m happy with it so far. Also, the customer service is great. Jim and his crew are very nice people. They gave me lots of good advice prior to my purchase, and were really nice about changing the dulcimer to double-melody. Get a dulcimer- you won’t regret it.

FSH Solid Walnut with 1.5, 6.5, …

What can I say, the instrument is beautiful looking, sounding, and crafted. This is actually my second folkcraft instrument. I bought the first one just a month earlier and was so taken by again it’s beauty craftsmanship and sound that I decided to try the Kentucky style instead of the California style, which was the style of my first instrument. Anyone looking for a mountain Dalsimer shouldn’t hesitate to buy from folkcraft. They also have excellent service and a great guy to talk to on the phone if you give them a call.

Love my beautiful FSH Butternut/Cherry Dulcimer!

The instrument is everything I wanted and more. I had very specific set-up requirements due to fairly severe arthritis in my left hand. I need the action as low as possible as well as slightly lighter strings than are standard on a 25” VSL. I’d spoken to several other dulcimer builders in my quest for a dulcimer to meet my needs, and they were all reticent to go outside their usual box to accommodate me. Not Richard! He made sure to set up my dulcimer exactly per my requirements. Not only does it play exactly like I wanted it to (so easily!), its sound it absolutely captivating, clear as bell, with lovely sustain. And it plays in absolutely perfect tune, yay! I’m also impressed with the exquisite attention to detail in the finishing, the outstanding craftsmanship, every aspect perfection. The look of the wood chosen for the instrument takes my breath away! One of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
